Electricity crisis happens in China in these years. Gradually, LED becomes a power-saving alternative for outdoor illumination. With same illumination, the LED consumes 30% less electric power than incandescent lamp. As a result, LED industry is supported by the Chinese government. Light valleys are established in Shanghai , Dalian , Nanchang , and Xiamen . Several measures announced by the government demonstrate that the LED will become the mainstream of illumination and outdoor advertisement.

 

In the future, the largest market of LED will be the general illumination. If the fluorescent lights can be replaced by LED completely, the potential market size can be more than 300 billion. At the same time, more domains can be explored. Currently, down light and internal illuminations are available on the market and its size is expanding gradually. However, in the market of plane light source, the progress is slow. This is because you have to overspread LED on a fixed plane and project the light down as a back light of the panel. In other ways, you need a guide plate. All these ways make it difficult for LED to beat fluorescent lights in power and cost. General illumination requires good color rendering. So UV or blue LED is required. That cuts efficiency. Therefore, we need some time to improve and satisfy the requirement of 100lm/w illumination.
